My Amsterdam Dance Event Week: the Canals and Techno gone Noord

ADE15, Amsterdam, Amsterdam Dance Event, art, Blog, DGTL, Festival, Music, Photography, travel

My days at the Dance Event officially started yesterday, the schedule is pretty tight, but I really like to update you as much as I can.

After a brief lunch and meetup with other writers and creatives, Iamsterdam organized a very special canal tour for us. In the very beginning, I thought something like “Alright, let’s join canal tour #20”. Since I come to Amsterdam very often with a different person who’s never been here, the canal tour is quite a must. So for me it isn’t something new anymore.

I was surprised this time, because the boat took us through the red light district, back to the Central Station and to the canal ring. So a lightly different tour than usual ,and the boat was a cute construction from the 30s, very small and totally different than the regular tourist boats. Our capitain told us a bunch of interesting stories about the city, how the station was built on the water because it was cheaper, and the devil’s island noord, formerly used to display proudly death people after death penalty. As a warning – “Welcome to Amsterdam, be a good person, otherwise you’ll end like this”.

During our trip on the water we were spoiled with bubbles, strawberries and chocolate, which you certainly won’t find on a tourist tour.

Later in the evening, we had dinner at De Waag, a building that is on the market square just in front of Chinatown, and it’s the only non-religious building in town which looks a lot alike to a church. It’s a nice place for a multi course dinner, the service was exellent and after you can have an extended stroll through the red light district.

My first party at the Amsterdam Dance Event brought me back to the Northern side of town, where I attended one of the DGTL parties, with DJ Maya Jane Coles headlining. The venue was obviously one of the huge warehouses at the NDSM wharf – good techno and a warehouse match perfectly together, if you ask me. The party had amazing visuals and there was tons of space for everybody to dance.

DGTL was a great party to attend as a first, they do events Europe wide, so keep yourself informed if the next techno party is close to your town. Oh, and thanks to the cashless system: I’ve never experienced a bar that was that fast!

I have to jump up and get ready for the next plans of tonight. You’ll see a lot of streetart, and will read about an electronic music documentary premiere and a new venue in the next post.

Happy weekend ❤
